Upgraded Port Increases The Capacity to 50K Tons, Locates in Sihanouk Ville
Phnom Penh: Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) has inaugurated its new terminal, the Multi-purpose port, to expand the transport capacity of the Cambodian Gulf.
The inaugurated port held the capacity of 50,000 tons of cargo ships compared to the existing port that could accommodate approximately 10,000 to 15,000 tons of cargo ships. Thus, cargo ship whose weight is not exceeding 50,000 tons can be easily docked at the port.
The new port has the length of 330 meters, and depth of 13.5 meters and there is a tugboat to push or tow cargo ships. The construction cost is approximately $74 million that is loaned from Japan.
“The goal of this Multi-purpose port is to decrease the cost of transporting goods from abroad,” H.E.. Sun Chanthol, the Minister of Ministry Public Works and Transports.
He also added that there will be another port, where the construction happens in 2019 and is expected to finish by 2023.
