Flood in Stung Treng Due to The Collapse of Hydropower Dam in Laos
Stung Treng- Many areas in Stung Treng province, Cambodia, have been flooded due to the collapse of an under construction Se-Pian Se Nam Noi in Laos, according to the report by The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.
On Monday 24th of July, there was a collapse of the hydropower dam under construction, Se-Pian Se Nam Noi in Attapeu, southeast Laos. The incident caused many casualties and flooding in Laos.
However, Siem Pang district in Stung Treng is also the hardest-hit area, which has been affected by the flood from the incident, that turning lands into lakes and leaving many people stranded on rooftops. Some homes were smashed, while the others were tilting precariously.
The Se Kong River has now risen to a height of 12meters, which is over the warning level.
Local authorities and rescuers are being hard at work trying to evacuate residents to the safety places. The provincial governor also requested residents to take extra precaution.
Emergency aid such as food, pure drinking water, clothing, medicine, and shelters have been provided to local residents.
