100K USD Robbed by 5 Armed Men From Bank!!
Phnom Penh- On the 24th of August 2018, RHB’s Indochina Bank, Mao Tse Tong branch, Phnom Penh, was robbed of USD 100,000 in broad daylight by five armed men. The men wore helmets to conceal their identities, gloves to make tracing difficult and armed with two guns, arrived by their motorcycles and carried out the crime in just 10-15 minutes.
The incident took place near noon at some 11:40 am with the security cameras rolling the action being unfolded. It captures the men who threatened the security guard of the bank at gunpoint with two pistols, allowing their companions to raid the bank’s office with a lot of money, however, the exact details at this point as to how much exactly was stolen is yet to be confirmed.
The staff said, “armed guards should protect the bank however currently, only private security guards are guarding the bank and most of them are unarmed, making it easy for any robbery to occur.”
The Ministry of Interior of Cambodia said banks were no longer in need of armed guards because the country had achieved “full peace” however this bank robbery is the first to occur in a long time.
The RHB Indochina Bank has released a statement, “All staff and customers were safe during the incident,” it said. “An investigation into the robbery is currently being carried out by the Ministry of Interior…the branch will remain closed until further notice to facilitate investigations.
We will provide updates from time to time on our website and social media platforms,” the statement added. “We would like to assure our customers that their savings and investments remain safe and secure”.
